Change is an inevitable part of life, and even though people are meant to grow and evolve, it can leave us with feelings of loss. APPLIQUE depicts the way I process change as I move into a new phase of my life, while trying to keep precious memories of my past tethered to my present. Loved ones who have passed, people I care about moving away, and the golden glow of childhood going dull are all things that led to new transformations in my life. These photographic objects illustrate the nostalgia I feel looking back on the places and people that helped me become who I am. Poetry accompanies the visual depictions to describe the emotional state represented in their paired image-object to allow the viewer to understand, on a deeper level, the meaning behind each piece.
