One in five Buffalo County high school youth struggles with mental health. Buffalo County Community Partners saw the youth in their community were struggling and knew they had to make a change. They formed the Buffalo County Youth Advisory Board (YAB) to provide a safe setting with knowledgeable mentors for youth. Youth and adult mentors co-created a space to support and guide youth to find a sense of belonging in their community. A strong sense of belonging, paired with caring adult mentors, is proven in increasing youth coping skills to thrive.
More Than Meets The Eye takes a closer look into the stories of Abby, Clarie, Forde, Jessamyn, Madalyn, Mason and Owen. Who are just a few of the members from YAB. These kids have a story to tell. A story that can potentially find recognition with another person who is struggling. This series provides a small glimpse into each of their lives during a time of great adversity and how they were able to overcome it.
